Progress, slowly

I have been writing. In spite of renovation chaos and torrential rains and summer schedules, I’ve been writing.

It’s tough to settle in to a big project with all the distractions, but I’ve been able to chip away at it. I ponder moments in the story, or details in the backstory I haven’t figured out yet. I do bits of research and look at images. I write in fits and starts. Slowly, ever so slowly, the manuscript grows longer. And when I finally have time to focus and I reread what I’ve done so far, I like it. Somehow, that always surprises me.
