I’ve spent a couple afternoons this week dyeing with my sister (partly research, partly play). We dyed wool yarn with indigo, and with cochineal. We were hoping for degrees of clear pink with the cochineal; instead, we got a range of muted shades from red-purple to dusty salmon. The photo is of the indigo vat, which is brewed very carefully. I love the idea of this being a living organism.
