Annie Dillard in The Writing Life wrote “Writing every book, the writer must solve two problems: Can it be done? and, Can I do it?”
I have days when I feel more uncomfortable and less sure of myself writing than I ever have. I would have expected this to go the other way, now that I have a few books published. I think it has to do with pushing to improve, as I tackle bigger challenges and strive for quality.
And so I live with unease. Can I do this? Really? On good days I just do it – no worry, just writing. It’s on the poor writing days, when I’m tired, that judging sneaks in. Can I do this?
